Chalk up another major league player from the Valley League!

Carlos Rodriguez, a righthanded pitcher who spent a little bit of his 2021 summer in Charlottesville, made his major league debut for the Milwaukee Brewers last night. He was the starting pitcher against the Toronto Blue Jays; in 3 2/3 innings, he allowed seven hits, two earned runs, one walk, and struck out four.

Rodriguez is the 21st VBL alumnus to play in the 2024 major leagues, and the 262nd of all time (by my count).

He started one game in the 2021 summer for C-ville, throwing two shutout innings. He was then drafted in the 6th round that June by the Brewers, and started his pro career the next spring. In three seasons in the minors, he’s gone 19-16, 3.41 in 298 2/3 innings, with a tiny 1.135 WHIP and solid 10.6 K/9. Hopefully this is just the start of a long career!
